Pittsburgh Walk Kickoff Event - Wrap Up

pirate game

On Wednesday, July 23, 2014 we hosted the walk kick-off party at the ALS offices in Millvale. Since the walk is baseball themed this year, the kick-off party was one big tailgate. There was everything from tailgate food like BBQ chicken and pulled pork, to cornhole, peanuts and crackerjacks! We also had a massage station and an area for guests to make signs to take to the Pirate game that was happening after our event.

Once we all had a chance to mingle, eat and discuss important Walk Day details and fundraising strategies, we bussed our Walkers to PNC Park with free tickets to watch the Pirates defeat the LA Dodgers.

As our guests were exiting the bus, we handed them goodie bags that contained the following: a red wristband, candy and a baseball trading card that had information on it about ALS, our Chapter and how to register for the Walk. Before we dispersed the bags, we asked everyone to hand them out to other fans (not in our group) that were entering the game. Our goal was to spark some attention which I believe we did just that.

While we were inside the game, we filled up section 140 in the outfield with our red signs and beaming smiles. The camera people must have thought we had a good looking group because we were on the big screen A LOT! During the 7th inning scretch, Ms. Pennsylania, who was a part of our group and wearing a red ALS shirt, was caught singing on TV!

The event was a great way for the team captains, patients, sponsors, board members, committee members and staff of the Pittsburgh Walk to enjoy some good food, fun festivities and company of others in the ALS community. We all had a lot of fun and hopefully we will be able to do it again next year. Thank you to everyone that was able to come out.
