Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS® fundraising goal! The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
My late husband Steve starting having these weird twitches in his right arm in September 2017. By the end of the year, he completely lost use of that arm and hand and it started in his left arm. After months of tests, he was diagnosed in May of 2018. We were devastated and he was in denial. He tried the Radicava treatment beginning in June of 2018, but in late September 2018 he opted to stop treatment and entered hospice care. He lost his fight on November 13, 2018, leaving behind me and his 3 children.
THIS IS WHY WE WALK!
We LOVE YOU and MISS YOU, Steve!
